Sharks Split at GNAC Tri-Match

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. ? Simmons volleyball went one and one at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match hosted by the University of Saint Joseph with Saint Joseph?s College of Maine Saturday at the O'Connell Center.

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Simmons volleyball went one and one at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match hosted by the University of Saint Joseph with Saint Joseph's College of Maine Saturday at the O'Connell Center.

The Sharks swept their first match of the day against the hosts (25-16, 25-13, 25-17) but fell in five games to the Saint Joseph's College Monks (26-28, 26-24, 17-25, 25-20, 9-15). Freshmen Raeann Nesta (Niantic, Conn.) and Brittany Hill (Milford, Mass.) both hit over .500 and senior Rachel Dufault (Westport, Mass.) added 22 assists to life the Sharks to a 3-0 victory.

For the Blue Jays, Ciara Perez had nine kills to pace St. Joseph against Simmons (14-11, 5-2 GNAC) and Emily Vigue had six. Megan Williams had 18 assists for the Blue Jays.

In the second match, the Sharks were led by Caroline Boyd (Wilbraham, Mass.) who hit .212 with 12 kills on 33 attempts. Setter Rachel Dufault added 53 assists and senior Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) was stellar on defense with 26 digs.

The Sharks return to the court on Tuesday, October 16th when they host NESCAC powerhouse Amherst College at 7:00 p.m.
