Cardinals Top the Sharks, 3-0

Non-conference visitors North Central College topped the Sharks on Friday at home in three straight sets (25-13, 25-16,25-16). Simmons junior Krista Evans (Killen, Ala.) led the team with 14 total attacks, six kills, two aces and two solo blocks, while freshman Megan Chamberlin (Milford, Mass.) had a team-high 16 assists and three blocks. With the loss, Simmons Volleyball moves to 2-0 on the season (0-0 GNAC), while the Cardinals improve to 1-0.

Freshmen Kina Wilbur Kamien (Windham, N.H.), Sandy Lor (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Rossi Fish (North Attleboro, Mass.) rounded out the Simmons starting lineup, joined by Sophomore Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) and junior Morgan Powell (Orange, Mass.). Freshman Nafeesa Connolly (Natick, Mass.) also made her playing debut on the night.

The sharks showed incredible heart throughout the match, however their lack of experience was one of the major deciding factors of the match. Game one was a great chance for Simmons to experience a regionally ranked opponent. The Sharks' offense and defense played well, however their lack of controlling the serve receive was the deciding factors of all three games.

The Sharks will next face off against Worcester State at home on Tuesday, September 7 at 7:00pm.
