Volleyball 2010 Season Review

Simmons Volleyball is preparing for the 2010 season after a successful 2009 campaign. The Sharks ended last season with an appearance in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament, reaching the quarterfinals after a 13-15 season (7-5 GNAC), and tying the program record for most wins in a regular season (13). Led by fourth-year Head Coach Jason Conetta, the Sharks hope to solidify the program after three years of rapid growth, and finish in the top four of the GNAC tournament in 2010.

Simmons Volleyball ended the 2010 season with a 6-17 season record (4-8 GNAC). Junior Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) received a spot on the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Third Team?her third postseason honor in three years, while freshman Sandy Lor (Fitchburg, Mass.) earned a place on the GNAC Sportsmanship Team.

While the Sharks didn't meet all of their goals for 2010, the squad remains determined to continue growing into a perennial GNAC Tournament team. The season saw several highlights, beginning the fall with a talented group of first-years and returning athletes on the roster. The squad earned several big conference wins, most notably the season closing 3-2 victory over eventual GNAC Tournament semifinalist Emerson College.

Freshmen Megan Chamberlin (Milford, Mass.) and Lor made an immediate impact on the team in 2010. Chamberlin, a versatile athlete, played several positions this season, eventually finding her niche on the Right Side. Lor will continue to grow her skill at libero next fall after working hard in her first year.

The Sharks will graduate just three seniors in the spring- Taylor Pederson (San Antonio, Texas), Nicky Loring (Chester, N.H.) and Victoria Moran (Arlington, Mass.), leaving plenty of potential for program growth in 2011.

Fall 2010 was a learning experience, and the Sharks will continue to train during the off-season to find more routine success in 2011.
