Sharks Earn 2009-10 GNAC Academic All-Conference Honors

Simmons Volleyball earned the number eight ranking in Great Northeast Athletic Conference preseason voting, the conference office announced on Wednesday. The Sharks achieved a seventh seed in the 2008 GNAC Tournament, after posting a 13-11 overall record and 6-6 GNAC record.

The Great Northeast Athletic Conference recognized 530 student-athletes from 15 league sports on the 2010 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team. 40 Simmons athletes received the honor, and all seven of the Simmons varsity programs sponsored by the GNAC were represented on this year?s Academic All-Conference Team.

Second-year student-athletes from all 13 member institutions who hold a cumulative 3.25 (on a 4.0 scale) grade point average for the 2009-2010 academic school year and are a member of a varsity team are eligible.

This year boasts the highest number of GNAC student-athletes to ever receive this award, an increase of 27 from 2008-2009. Simmons also increased the number of Sharks on the Academic All-Conference by two student-athletes.
