Castigliego, Rubin Secure GNAC Pitcher, Rookie of the Week Accolades

WINTHROP, Mass. – Senior Maddie Castigliego and sophomore Jordyn Rubin pulled in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Pitcher and Rookie of the Week honors announced Monday afternoon.

Castigliego secured Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week and fourth overall, after posting a 2-0 record with a 1.75 ERA and 17 strikeouts (8-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio). In game one against the Amcats Saturday morning, she tossed a three-hitter while striking out eight opposing batters in a 19-1 victory. Castigliego topped her game one performance, fanning nine Amcats, including recording her 200th career strikeout, in game two.

Rubin earned Rookie of the Week honors, posting a .714 batting average (5-7) with three doubles, one triple, one homerun and eight RBI, while registering a 2.841 OPS (1.857 SLG%, .714 OBP). The Maine native's five-hit week extended her hitting streak to 11-games where she is hitting .500 (16-32) with four doubles, one triple, three homeruns and 17 RBI.

Simmons returns to the diamond on Wednesday, April 13 when they host conference rivals Emmanuel College at Daly Field. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
