Castigliego, Mulhern Secure GNAC Pitcher and Player of the Week Accolades

WINTHROP, Mass. – Seniors Maddie Castigliego and Allie Mulhern were named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player and Pitcher of the Week announced Monday afternoon. The duo helped guide the Sharks to a 2-0 week with shutouts against Elms College to open conference play.

Castigliego registered a two-to-one strikeout-to walk ratio in two games, retiring 11 opposing batters on strikes, while walking just five. In game one of the double-header, the Rhode Island native tossed a one-hitter, fanning eight Blazers – one shy of her career single-game best. She followed it up earning her 10th win of the year recording three strikeouts, while giving up two hits in a 12-0 victory in game two. Additionally, Castigliego helped her own cause at the plate going four-for-six with a double, homerun and five RBI, while posting a staggering 2.000 OPS (1.333 SLG%, .667 OBP).

Mulhern became the second Shark to secure Player of the Week accolades after posting a .600 batting average (3-5) with two homeruns and six RBI from the top of the Shark line up. In game one, she hit her first homerun of the season – an opposite field inside-the-park two-run homerun, then in the following game she launched her second of the day over the left field fence.
