LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Nine Simmons College softball players were named Scholar Athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for the 2014-15 academic year.

Softball student-athletes, who have compiled a 3.5 grade point average or higher, were recognized by the NFCA. The Sharks boast their highest number of honorees since the 2013 season.

Seniors Jen Field (Windham, Maine), Hannah Cunningham (Cotuit, Mass.), Victoria Luongo (Medford, Mass.), juniors Heather White (Westfield, Mass.) and Amy Maher (Milton, Mass.), sophomores Janyne Sierra (Everett, Mass.) and Tanya Stasio (Revere, Mass.) as well as first years Juliet Nelson (Cumberland, R.I.) and Cat Record (North Adams, Mass.) all received the honor.

Field, Luongo and White all earn the honor for the third straight year, while Cunningham, Sierra and Stasio also received the accolade following the 2014 campaign.

Field was named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference First Team following the season, while Cunningham was tabbed as a GNAC Second Teamer. White was one of two players to start all 33 games for Simmons and Nelson enjoyed a stellar rookie year with a 2.64 earned run average and a 7-4 record as the team's number two pitcher. Maher scored seven runs in 15 games as a pinch runner, Sierra started eight of 11 contests for the Sharks and Record saw time in six contests in her first collegiate campaign. Luongo started all four games that she appeared in behind the plate, before suffering an injury to cut her season short and Stasio saw time in three games for Simmons.

The Sharks finished the season with an 18-15 overall record, including a 15-7 mark that earned them a number four seed in the GNAC Tournament.
