Nine Sharks Receive NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete Honors

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Softball fell the to the University of Saint Joseph Blue Jays, 3-1 Wednesday afternoon in the single elimination first round of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament. Simmons junior Emily Cunningham (Cotuit, Mass.) led the Sharks with two hits.


BOSTON, Mass. -- Nine members of the Simmons Softball team were named 2012-2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar Athletes announced Thursday.

BOSTON, Mass. -- Nine members of the Simmons Softball team were named 2012-2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar Athletes announced Thursday.

 

The award is given to any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2012-13 academic year. Receiving the award for Sharks is junior Lauren Backhaus (Windsor, Conn.), sophomore Mikaela Caracciolo (North Attleboro, Mass.), junior Amanda Cordeiro (Fall River, Mass.), junior Jen Field (Windham, Maine), junior Victoria Luongo (Medford, Mass.), senior Christina Mulcahy (Cambridge, Mass.), sophomore Heather White (Westfield, Mass.) and 2013 graduates, Cailin Pagel (Dorchester, Mass.) and Ari King (Westford, Mass.)

 

Simmons also received NFCA All-Academic Team honors for their team GPA of 3.426. The team GPA ranked 30th in the country in Division III.

 

"These awards are a true testament to all of the hard work these young women put into their academics.  They continue to strive to be the best that they can be both in the classroom and on the field and I couldn't be prouder," said head coach Anne Hennigan.
