Backhaus Named GNAC Pitcher of the Week

CLERMONT, Fla. -- Simmons Softball opened their 2014 campaign with a 10-1 victory over The Sage Colleges in five innings and then fell to Haverford College 7-3 in game two at the Dot Richardson Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. BOSTON, Mass. -- For the second consecutive week, Lauren Backhaus (Windsor, Conn.) was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for her outstanding performance.

 

The sophomore went 4-0 in the circle last week, with wins over Lasell College, Emmanuel College, Anna Maria College and Suffolk University to lift the Sharks to a 15-6 overall record and 8-3 in the GNAC.

 

Backhaus struck out 41 batters in 28 innings of work, compiling an impressive 0.50 ERA for the week. She currently leads the GNAC with 10 wins and is third in the conference for strikeouts with 91.

 

The Sharks travel to Nashua, N.H. to face Rivier in their fourth double-header in as many days this afternoon beginning at 5:30 p.m.
