CLERMONT, Fla. -- Simmons Softball went one and one on their final day of spring training today, falling 2-0 to the #19 ranked Moravian College Greyhounds and posting a 9-1 victory in five innings against Oswego State University.

The Sharks (3-7) defense held the Greyhounds to two runs, one in the second inning when Shannen Mohr doubled to center field and then advanced to home by Thomas who singled down the left side. Simmons added two hits in the fourth inning when Emily Cunningham (Cotuit, Mass.) singled through the right side and Amanda Gould (Kingston, N.H.) sent the ball to right field but Simmons could not convert a run.

Moravian added their second run in the bottom of the fifth but the Sharks defense ended the inning when Alaina DeNoncour (Johnston, R.I.) fielded a ground ball to throw out Taylor Mihalik at first.

In their final game of the week, the Sharks defeated the Oswego State University Lakers 9-1 in five innings with eight different Sharks contributing a run. Oswego State got on the scoreboard first when Katie Bredin scored on a Sharks error. But Simmons rebounded in the bottom of the first when pitcher Amanda Cordeiro (Fall River, Mass.) singled down the right field line sending E. Cunningham and Jen Field (Windham, Maine) across home plate.

With no runs scored in the second and third innings, the Sharks offense got hot in the fifth with five runs off four hits. Gould singled to left field to start the inning and advanced to second when Cailin Pagel (Dorchester, Mass.) hit a perfect sacrifice bunt. DeNoncour reached first base on an error by the Lakers infield and both Gould and DeNoncour advanced on a wild pitch.

Hannah Cunningham (Cotuit, Mass.) picked up an RBI for her bunt, scoring Gould, and Ari King (Westford, Mass.) singled to left field to drive home another run. E. Cunningham reached first on an error, which scored King, and Field crossed home plate for the Sharks' ninth run on a pass ball.

With an eight run lead, the game ended in fifth inning and Cordeiro picked up the win for the Sharks, allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts.

The Sharks return to the field on March 13th when they travel to MIT for a 4:00 p.m. start.
