Simmons bats were hot in West Haven, Conn., as the Sharks scored 10 runs in the first game and 17 in the second. Leading the offensive charge were junior Annie Thompson (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) with four hits, including a grand slam, and senior Leah Derderian (Boylston, Mass.), who belted three hits and hit .714 on the weekend.

Junior Courteney Collier (Bolton, Mass.) threw the first game and struck out 13 batters, eight of them looking, in five innings of work. Collier allowed just one hit and walked two. She struck out the side three times. The Simmons defense behind only needed to make two defensive plays to end the game on top.

Sophomore Sami Hodgkins (Putney, Vt.) was equally impressive in the nightcap, going the distance in the five-inning game. Hodgkins yielded three hits, struck out three and walked zero. She faced just one batter over the minimum as the defense turned two double plays.
