Simmons Softball captured another Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Tuesday, this time against the Lasers of Lasell College. The Sharks won game one 6-2, and game two 3-1, to boost their season record to 16-4, and 11-2 GNAC mark. Lasell falls to 9-14-1 on the season, 5-5 GNAC.

"I was very pleased with the way the team played today. These were two big wins for us as Lasell is a good team and is in the middle of the playoff hunt," said Head Coach Anne Hennigan. "We stayed poised even when we were behind and we were able to get timely hits when needed. We still have work to do with big games this coming weekend, but those were two big ones to get."

Game One

In game one, the Sharks converted 11 hits into six runs, while the Lasers ripped only three knocks in the contest. Simmons scored one run in the second and one in the third before finishing the game with two runs in the fifth and two insurance runs in the seventh, when Annie Thompson (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) delivered a one out two-run home run over the left field fence. Lasell scored both their runs in the fifth inning in a two-hit, one-error frame.

Courteney Collier (Bolton, Mass.) pitched an outstanding game, allowing only three hits in seven innings of work. She walked two and struck out five batters for the victory.

Game Two

Lasell took the lead in game two during the bottom of the fourth inning when Laramie tripled to right field and then was brought home by a sacrifice fly to right field by Saluti. Simmons answered with three runs in the sixth inning to take over the lead. Collier reached on an error and was brought home after a Thompson double and a Derderian single. Katelyn Bourgeois (North Smithfield, R.I.) scored after a base hit by Ashley Wheeler (Nashua, N.H.) and Thompson scored on a fielder's choice.

Simmons waited until the top of the sixth to do the damage. Collier reached first on an error by the third baseman and then moved up to third on Thompson's ground rule double down the left field line. Leah Derderian (Boylston, Mass.) followed with a clutch double, scoring Collier with the tying run. Wheeler then delivered an RBI single of her own to score Thompson. Bourgeois ran for Derderian and scored on Emily Colligan's (Leominster, Mass.) RBI single. That would prove enough as the Sharks defense closed out the Lasers.

Sami Hodgkins (Putney, Vt.) pitched five innings, allowing five hits, striking out two and walking none. Collier came in relief in the bottom of the sixth, yielding zero hits, striking out one and walking one.

The Sharks will host Saint Joseph's Maine for a GNAC doubleheader on Friday, April 9 at 3:00pm at the Boston Common Field.
