Simmons Splits GNAC Doubleheader with Norwich; 10-7, 4-2

Simmons Softball split a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader with Norwich on Saturday afternoon. The Sharks endured a 10-7 loss in the opening game, before taking a 4-2 decision in the nightcap.

Simmons Softball split a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader with Norwich on Saturday afternoon. The Sharks endured a 10-7 loss in the opening game, before taking a 4-2 decision in the nightcap.


Simmons moves to 6-10 GNAC, 8-19 overall following the split, while Norwich falls to 9-9 GNAC, 10-16 overall on the year.


Game One


The Sharks led 7-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning before Norwich scored the final seven runs to take the victory.


Marley Balasco led the Cadets at the plate in the opener, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs.


Game Two


Simmons took an early lead in the nightcap, scoring a run in the top of the first inning. The Sharks made it 2-0 in the fourth, and Norwich answered with a two-run home run in the bottom of that frame to tie the game at 2-2.


Simmons scored two runs in the sixth to take the lead for good, and Norwich never threatened in the seventh.


Simmons will return to action on Monday, April 13, when the Sharks host Saint Joseph's of Connecticut in a GNAC doubleheader at 3:00 p.m.
