Sharks sweep weekly honors

The Simmons College softball team has raised plenty of eyebrows this season, and the recognition was apparent in the weekly honors for the final week of the regular season. The Sharks had one representative in the player of the week, rookie of the week, and pitcher of the week categories.

Freshman Dannie Szabo shared player of the week honors with Suffolk's Jess Ferreira. Szabo had a tremendous week, belting four home runs, and driving in 17 runs. She had the game winning hit in extra innings in a win over St. Joseph (Ct). She also had a two homer 7 RBI effort in a win over Albertus Magnus.

Sophomore ace Sammi Letizio earned her third Pitcher of the week award this season after another stellar week.

She went 4-0 that included tossing a no-hitter against Mount Ida, and a 12 strikeout gem against St. Joseph. She also picked up the win in relief in the second game against St Joseph, and won her start against Lasell on Sunday.

Earning rookie of the week honors this week was outfielder Annie Thompson. She batted a scorching .654 for the week, with 17 hits, and 13 runs scored. She had a four hit game against Mt. Ida, and a three hit game against Albertus Magnus on the week. She drove in the game tying run in the 7th inning in the Sharks' come from behind win over St. Joseph.

The Sharks have the week off before beginning the GNAC tournament on Saturday at noon at Lasell.
