Sharks Take Two Over DWC

The Simmons College softball team remained unbeaten in GNAC play on Sunday taking a doubleheader sweep from Daniel Webster with scores of 6-1 and 8-0. In the first game Daniel Webster got on the board in the top of the first, courtesy of a single, stolen base, and an RBI groundout. But the Sharks answered in the home half of the first, when Emily Nalband reached base to start the game, and scored on an RBI single from Dannie Szabo.

In the first game Daniel Webster got on the board in the top of the first, courtesy of a single, stolen base, and an RBI groundout. But the Sharks answered in the home half of the first, when Emily Nalband reached base to start the game, and scored on an RBI single from Dannie Szabo. The Sharks got two more in the second thanks to a two run double from Nalband. Szabo got the third started with a single and a stolen base, and she scored on a Leah Derderian single.

In the circle junior Kelsey Hasick settled down after the first and tossed a gem, allowing just two hits and blanking the Eagles over the final six frames to pick up her second win of the season. In game two the Sharks got on the board right away in the bottom of the first. Annie Thompson and Ann Talarico each singled, and scored on an RBI single from Szabo, and a two run double from senior Natalie West. In the third, a single from Talarico and a double from Szabo got a rally started, as each scored to take a 5-0 lead.

The five run lead would be plenty for Sharks ace Sammi Letizio who was virtually untouchable allowing just two hits and striking out 12 over six innings. In the fifth the Sharks got two more on a two run single from Thompson.The eighth and final run came courtesy of a Letizio single, that scored West to end the game 8-0. The Sharks (12-3, 4-0) are off until Wednesday when they travel to Rotch Park to take on defending conference champion Emerson in 5 p.m. doubleheader under the lights.
