Sharks Softball Sweep GNAC Weekly Honors

The Simmons softball team swept the Great Northeast Athletic Conference weekly honors last week, after a tremendous 9-1 start to the season

East Providence, R.I. ? The Simmons softball team picked up a pair of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contests against Johnson & Wales at Pierce Field on Saturday afternoon. Simmons posted an 8-2 win in the opener and finished the day with an 8-0 victory in the nightcap.

48 Simmons College student-athletes were recognized as Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Academic All-Conference selections for the 2007-08 season.

The Simmons softball team swept the Great Northeast Athletic Conference weekly honors last week, after a tremendous 9-1 start to the season. Senior captain Ann Talarico (Ware, Mass.) was honored as the conference player of the week, after a 10 game stretch where she batted .455 with 10 RBI and 12 runs scored while playing flawless defense at shortstop.

Freshman Dannie Szabo (White Plains, N.Y.) had a tremendous start to her college career batting a team leading .484 for the week, with two homers and 12 RBI in addition to 12 runs scored and four stolen bases. In the circle sophomore Sammi Letizio (Windham, N.H.) was nearly perfect going 7-0 on the week with an ERA of 0.53. She allowed just three earned runs in 40 innings pitched, while striking out 37. She threw six complete games, and picked up one win in relief.

The Sharks are back in action this week with three game starting Tuesday, before beginning GNAC play next weekend.
