BOSTON, Mass. – Senior midfielder Kristen Mihalich (East Rockaway, N.Y.) netted the game-winner in the second overtime to give the Simmons University women's soccer team a 2-1 victory over visiting University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) this afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play on Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks have won four of their last six and improve to 4-11-1 overall, including 4-7-0 in league play, while the Blue Jays fall to 10-5-1 and 5-5-1.

The teams played evenly throughout the match with Saint Joseph holding a 14-12 shot margin with Simmons attempting the only shot in the second overtime. The Sharks held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks for the day.

Senior forward Amber Nobbs (Granville, Mass.) had a hand in both goals for Simmons with a goal and an assist.

Nobbs sent a cross from the right side of the box to Mihalich, who gathered the ball in the box and fired a hard shot on goal from 10 yards out that was deflected off a defender and into the upper right corner of the back of the net for the Sharks game-winner with 7:22 left to play in the second extra period.

The Blue Jays opened the scoring in the 13th minute of the first half of play. Senior forward Olivia Norton (Berlin, Conn.) sent a cross to the right side of the box, where Muscatello settled it and drove a low hard shot from 15 yards out to just inside the far left post for her fifth goal of the season at the 12:54 mark of the first half.

Simmons knotted the contest at 1-1 when first year midfielder Izabella Warren (Hillsboro, N.H.) lofted a corner kick into the box where Nobbs flicked the serve into the top right corner of the net from five yards out for her second tally of the season with 14:52 left in the second stanza.

Muscatello and sophomore midfielder Ariana Gazaferi (Southington, Conn.) each recorded four shots for the match to lead Saint Joseph, while Nobbs fired four shots to top the Sharks.

Simmons first year goalie Melanie Colman (Holliston, Mass.) recorded four saves to earn the victory, while sophomore keeper Lindsey Montminy (Vernon, Conn.) stopped four shots for the Blue Jays.

The Sharks return to action on Wednesday, October 30 when they host GNAC rival Colby-Sawyer College in their regular-season finale on Daly Field at 4:00 p.m., while Saint Joseph heads to New Haven, Conn. on the same day to take on Albertus Magnus College in conference play at 6:00 p.m.
