BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons University field hockey team scored a pair of goals in the fourth quarter to give it a 2-0 victory over visiting Colby-Sawyer College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match today at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 7-9 overall, including 4-3 in GNAC play, while the Chargers fall to 7-8 and 3-3.

Simmons outshot its guests, 13-7, including a dominant fourth quarter that saw the Sharks own a 7-0 advantage.

Simmons scored both of its goals in a span of 94 seconds after both teams were held scoreless for the first 54-plus minutes of the match. Junior forward Lily D'Anna (Woodstock, Vt.) fired a pair of shots inside the circle that were both stopped, but senior forward Olivia Trull (Lowell, Mass.) collected the rebound in front of the cage and struck for her team-high ninth marker of the season to put the home team on the board with 5:17 showing on the fourth quarter clock.

The Sharks duplicated their effort just a minute and a half later when sophomore forward Haley Dover (West Springfield, Mass.) put a shot on frame, but was denied by the Colby-Sawyer keeper before senior forward Hannah Scott (Claremont, N.H.) corralled the rebound and scored on a put-back for her second tally of the year and a 2-0 lead with 3:43 remaining in the game.

The Chargers looked to score early in the first quarter when senior forward Alie Jones (Cape Neddick, Maine) fired a shot that was turned back and collected the rebound, but her shot went wide left.

Junior goalie Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) recorded five saves to post her fifth shutout of the season and the 10th of her career for Simmons, while junior keeper Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) stopped six shots and senior back Kailyn Lapham (Medway, Mass.) made a defensive save for Colby-Sawyer.
