NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Simmons University field hockey team was defeated by host Colby-Sawyer College, 1-0, this afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match at Veitch Turf Field in New London, N.H. The Sharks fall to 6-11 overall, including 4-3 in league play, while the Chargers win their school-record seventh straight match and improve to 13-4 and 5-2.

Colby-Sawyer scored the lone goal in the second half, despite Simmons owning a 6-3 shot advantage for the half. The Chargers fired the only three shots of the opening period and held a 7-5 penalty corner margin for the match. 

Simmons secures the number four seed for the GNAC Championship Tournament and will host fifth-seeded Johnson & Wales University on Saturday, October 27 at Daly Field at 11:00 a.m., while Colby-Sawyer is the third seed and will host sixth-seeded Anna Maria College on the same day at 12:30 p.m. 

The lone goal of the contest came with 20:58 left in the match when Colby-Sawyer junior Alie Jones (Cape Neddick, Maine) sent the ball across the front of the goal to Hadley Woodfin (Marblehead, Mass.), who one-timed the game-winner into the right side of the cage. The goal was Woodfin's first of the season. 

The Sharks received one shot each from six different players. 

Simmons sophomore goalie Lucy McNamara (Brewster, Mass.) registered four saves, while Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) also stopped four shots to earn the victory for the Chargers.
