Athletics Welcomes Chris Duffy to the Sports Medicine Staff

BOSTON – Simmons Director of Athletics and Recreation Erica Schuling has announced the hiring of Chris Duffy, MS, ATC, LAT as an athletic trainer at Simmons University, announced on Thursday. Duffy will begin his new role on August 8, 2022.

"Chris is a fantastic addition to our Sports Medicine Department," says Schuling. "He has a well-rounded background with experience working with athletes from every level. I was impressed with his extensive knowledge and passion for injury prevention and rehabilitation. I am confident he will bring a compassionate and thoughtful approach to working with the Sharks. I look forward to seeing the positive energy Chris brings to his work as he continues to grow professionally."

Bringing a plethora of athletic training knowledge and experience, Duffy returns to Boston following a three-year stint as an Athletic Trainer at Division I Fordham University. With the Rams, he worked primarily with the volleyball and track and field, tennis and dance programs. Duffy focused on implementing various injury prevention methods, while also performing administrative tasks including organizing CPR/AED classes, and scheduling of emergency medical services during athletic events.

"Thank you to Erica Schuling, Jen Robertson, and the rest of the hiring committee for giving me this opportunity," says Duffy. "I'm excited for the chance to join the Sharks Sports Medicine Department, and begin providing care for the athletes at Simmons. My passion for working with injured athletes and non-injured athletes, alike, to not only treat, but prevent injuries fits right in line with the philosophy established here. I look forward to continuing to grow in all aspects of the profession under Jen."

Prior to Fordham, Duffy served a pair of four-month, full-time clinical experiences at Northwestern University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. These clinical experiences were two of four experiences he needed as he obtained his Master's in Athletic Training from Boston University. At Northwestern, Duffy worked primarily with the women's lacrosse team, while at MIT he was dealt with a multitude of student-athletes from the football, volleyball, softball, and track and field programs.

Duffy began his athletic training career in Boston with a four-month clinical experience at Chelsea High School. Under the guidance of the athletic training staff, this role helped propel him into larger roles within the Boston University sports medicine department and one-month experience with the Seattle Mariners.

A native of San Diego, California, Duffy graduated from the University of Oregon with his Bachelor of Science in human physiology in 2015. During his undergraduate days, he spent the summer of 2012 with the Cape Cod League Harwich Mariners, assisting the team's athletic training staff.
