Najimy Leads Cross Country at NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship; Freeman Sets Personal Best

BOSTON, Mass. ? The Simmons University women?s cross country team scored 299 points to place 10th at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Alumni Cross Country Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State University at Doyle Conservation in Leominster, Mass. to open the season.

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- First year Alice Najimy (Pittsfield, Mass.) capped the season with a 101st-place finish to lead the Simmons University cross country team this morning at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship hosted by Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. The Sharks finished 48th as a team in the six-kilometer race with 1384 points in their final meet of the season.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology won the team crown with 87 points, while sophomore Kaitlyn Mooney earned the individual championship with a time of 20:43.74 for the United States Coast Guard Academy.

Najimy turned in a personal-best 6K time of 23:55.83 as the top finisher for Simmons and was the highest finisher of any first year runner from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. 

Senior Hannah Green (Blandford, Mass.) clocked in at 27:18.71 to place 305th, while senior Carol Figueiredo (Norwood, Mass.) and junior Gabby Freeman (Newnan, Ga.) were within a second of each other at 28:09.06 and 28:10.62, respectively, to place 322nd and 323rd overall. Freeman's mark was a career-best in a six-kilometer race. Sophomore Chloe O'Hara (Westminster, Mass.) finished 351st with a mark of 29:18.86 and junior Amelia Franklin (Bath, Maine) crossed the finish at 29:42.75 to place 360th.
