Najimy Finishes Fifth; Cross Country Places Seventh at GNAC Championship

STANDISH, Maine -- First year Alice Najimy (Pittsfield, Mass.) finished fifth to lead the Simmons University women's cross country team to a seventh-place finish at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship this afternoon at the SJC Cross Country Trail in Standish, Maine.

Emmanuel College (Mass.) won the team championship with 44 points, while the Sharks scored 163. Suffolk University junior Emma Weise won the individual crown with a GNAC record time of 19:38.

Najimy turned in a time of 20:29 to lead Simmons. Senior Hannah Green (Blandford, Mass.) finished 33rd with a time of 23:07 and junior Mary Coletti (Killingworth, Conn.) clocked in at 23:25 to place 37th overall. Senior Carol Figueiredo (Norwood, Mass.) crossed the finish in 50th place on a time of 24:02 with sophomore Chloe O'Hara (Westminster, Mass.) right behind at 24:10 for a 52nd-place showing. Junior Gabby Freeman (Newnan, Ga.) posted a mark of 24:44 to finish 63rd and junior Amelia Franklin (Bath, Maine) finished 74th with a time of 26:16.
