Najimy Leads Cross Country at 38th Annual Women's Codfish Bowl

PAXTON, Mass. -- First year Alice Najimy (Pittsfield, Mass.) finished sixth in her collegiate debut to lead the Simmons University women's cross country team to a fourth-place effort this morning at the Worcester City Meet at Moore State Park in Paxton, Mass.

BOSTON, Mass. -- First year Alice Najimy (Pittsfield, Mass.) broke the 20-minute barrier and placed 15th overall to lead the Simmons University women's cross country team to a ninth-place finish at the 38th Annual Women's Codfish Bowl at historic Franklin Park in Dorchester, Mass.

Merrimack College won the team race with a score of 23 points, paced by individual title winner, Katherine Ferrara's time of 19:09. The Sharks tallied 247 points for the meet, that included prep schools as well as running clubs. Simmons placed fifth among collegiate teams.

Najimy clocked in at 19:57, which was good for ninth among collegiate competitors and fourth for NCAA Division III runners. 

Sophomore Chloe O'Hara (Westminster, Mass.) turned in a time of 23:56 to place 97th overall and 55th for collegiate runners, while senior Carol Figueiredo (Norwood, Mass.) was just five seconds behind at 24:01 to finish 100th/57th. Senior Hannah Green (Blandford, Mass.) was the next finisher for the Sharks, crossing the line at 24:45 to finish 110th/61st with junior Amelia Franklin (Bath, Maine) steps behind at 24:49 to place 112th/62nd.

The Sharks will run again on Saturday, October 6 when they compete in the Running Monks Invitational at 11:00 a.m. in Standish, Maine.
