Cross Country Finishes 30th at NCAA New England Regional Championship

GORHAM, Maine - The Simmons College women's cross country team saw all six of its competitors set personal-record times to contribute to a 30th-place finish at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship this afternoon at the Gorham Country Club in Gorham, Maine.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology won the team crown with 58 points and boasted five top-17 finishers. The Sharks tallied 907 points in their season-finale meet. Coast Guard Academy first year Katilyn Mooney won the individual title with a time of 20:22.6 in the six kilometer race.

Junior Samantha Jaffe (Fayetteville, N.Y.) was the top finisher for Simmons, placing 108th overall, while shattering her personal-record time in the 6K by 67 seconds with a time of 23:26.2 to average 6:17 per mile. Senior Allegra Egizi (Beverly, Mass.) turned in a mark of 23:49.0 to erase her previous best by 43 seconds to finish 137th, while first year Ellen Malloy (Acton, Mass.) topped her previous best 6K time by a minute and 55 seconds with a clip of 24:41.7 to cross the line at 201.

Sophomore Emily Josephson (Rochester, Mass.) placed 227th with a time of 24:58.5 to best her previous record time by nearly 12 seconds. Sophomore Mary Coletti (Killingworth, Conn.) finished her first NCAA Championship race with a time of 25:17.4 to better her previous best 6K time by nearly 43 seconds and finsh 248th. Junior Carol Figueiredo (Norwood, Mass.) ran the fastest 6K of her career with a time of 26:13.5 to surpass her former record by 64 seconds.

The Sharks finish the campaign with 12 of 14 runners setting a personal-record time during the season.
