Bohan Finishes Seventh to Lead Cross Country at 37th Annual Women's Codfish Bowl

BOSTON, Mass. - Junior Sarah Bohan (Guilford, Conn.) placed seventh to the lead the Simmons College women's cross country team to a fourth-place showing at the 37th Annual Women's Codfish Bowl this afternoon at historic Franklin Park in Dorchester, Mass.

The Sharks finished with 149 points to register the second-highest finish of any NCAA Division III squad. Stonehill College won the team title with 44 points, followed by Westfield State University and Merrimack College. Westfield State's Jessie Cardin earned the individual championship with a mark of 19:00 in the five kilometer race.

Bohan shaved eight seconds off her personal-record time for Simmons with a clip of 20:02. She placed seventh overall and fifth among collegiate competitors in the race.

Bohan was one of five runners to run a sub 22-minute 5K for the Sharks. Simmons senior Allegra Egizi (Beverly, Mass.) finished 35th overall and 28th among college runners with a time of 20:52, which was less than one second over her personal best. Junior Samantha Jaffe (Fayetteville, N.Y.) was 14 seconds behind Egizi with a mark of 21:06 to place 41st/33rd, while sophomore Emily Josephson (Rochester, Mass.) topped her previous best time by 10 seconds with a mark of 21:20 to finish 48th/38th for the Sharks. First year Ellen Malloy (Acton, Mass.) also figured in the scoring for Simmons with a time of 21:21 to finish just a second behind Josephson in her first collegiate five-kilometer run. Sophomore Mary Coletti (Killingworth, Conn.) also ran her first 5K at the collegiate level, turning in a time of 22:19 to place 79th/61st. 

Junior Hannah Green (Blandford, Mass.) clocked in at 23:09 (101st/79th) and classmate Carol Figueiredo (Norwood, Mass.) was 11 seconds behind with a placing of 111th/87th. Sophomore newcomer Gabby Freeman (Newnan, Ga.) finished 126th/98th with a mark of 23:49 and classmate Amelia Franklin (Bath, Maine) finished 135th/101st with a time of 24:39. First year Mai Linh Vankirk (Essex Junction, Vt.) crossed the finish at 24:59 for a placing of 138th/103rd, while junior Kathryn Nagle (Bangor, Maine) closed out the finishers for the Sharks with a time of 25:17 to come in at 143rd/106th.

Simmons returns to Franklin Park next Saturday, September 30 when it competes in the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Championship at 11:00 a.m.
