WESTFIELD, Mass. - The Simmons College women's cross country team placed 24th at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship this morning at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass. 

The Sharks scored 786 points, while Massachusetts Institute of Technology posted a score of 68 points to earn the championship. Junior Brittany Bowman from Tufts University won the six kilometer race with a time of 21:14.29.

Simmons posted the lowest score among Great Northeast Athletic Conference teams as it did at the GNAC Championship two weeks ago.

Sophomore Sarah Bohan (Guilford, Conn.) led Simmons with a career-best time of 23:12.91 to knock nearly 47 seconds off her previous best, while placing 86th overall and recording the highest finish of any GNAC runner.

Graduate student Kara MacLean (Braintree, Mass.) clocked in at 23:59.25 to finish 144th for the Sharks. Junior Allegra Egizi (Beverly, Mass.) bested her personal-record by almost 15 seconds with a time of 24:32.21 to place 183rd, while sophomore Samantha Jaffe (Fayetteville, N.Y.) crossed the finish with a mark of 24:33.87, which was just tenths of a second off her NCAA and personal-record time from last year. She placed 188th for the race. Senior Mia DeLuccia (Lynnfield, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for Simmons by shaving a staggering 1:47 off her previous best 6K time from 2014 with a mark of 24:41.41 to place 197th. Senior Sara Harland (Pembroke, Mass.) turned in a time of 25:27.34 to finish 243rd for the Sharks. 

The meet caps the season for Simmons. The team boasted 16 of its 17 runners setting personal-record times in either the 5K or 6K this season.
