MacLean Leads Cross Country at Fens Classic

BOSTON, Mass. ? Graduate student Kara MacLean (Braintree, Mass.) finished sixth to pace the Simmons College women?s cross country team to a second-place team finish at the Seventh Annual Fens Classic at Roberto Clemente Field in Boston?s historic Back Bay Fens area.

BOSTON, Mass. – Graduate student Kara MacLean (Braintree, Mass.) finished sixth to pace the Simmons College women's cross country team to a second-place team finish at the Seventh Annual Fens Classic at Roberto Clemente Field in Boston's historic Back Bay Fens area. 

Brandeis University won the two-mile race with a team score of 15, while the Sharks tallied 50 points. 

Brandeis sophomore Emily Bryson (Quincy, Mass.) earned the individual crown in the women's race. Her speedy time of 11:09 shattered the previous Fens Classic course record of 11:46 set back in 2012. 

Simmons saw seven runners place among the top-20, including three in the top-10. MacLean crossed the finish with a clip of 12:31, while sophomore Samantha Jaffe (Fayetteville, N.Y.) was just nine seconds behind to place eighth. Sophomore Sarah Bohan (Guilford, Conn.) made her collegiate debut with a 10-place showing on a time of 12:42 and first year Emily Josephson (Rochester, Mass.) was two steps behind at 12:44 to place 11th overall. Senior Mia DeLuccia (Lynnfield, Mass.) clocked in at 13:13 to finish 16th, while classmate Sara Harland (Pembroke, Mass.) crossed the finish just five seconds later to register a 17th-place effort. First year Emily Freeman (Haverhill, Mass.) became the third newcomer to crack the top-20 for the Sharks, recording a time of 13:27 to finish 20th. 

First year Kearsten Pichette (Hooksett, N.H.) finished 24th with a time of 13:38 in her collegiate debut, while senior Bethanie Royality-Lindman (Wakefield, R.I.) cruised in with a mark of 13:53 to finish 26th. Sophomore Hannah Green (Blandford, Mass.) placed 30th in her first college competition with a time of 14:03 and fellow rookie Amelia Franklin (Bath, Maine) clocked in at 14:28 to finish 34th. Senior Madison Rivard (Sharon, Mass.) turned in a time of 14:33 to finish 35th, while sophomore Carol Figueiredo (Norwood, Mass.) was right behind at 14:35 to place 36th. Sophomore Kathryn Nagle (Bangor, Maine) rounded out the Simmons effort with a mark of 15:54 to place 52nd. 

The Sharks will compete again on Saturday, September 24 when they run at the 36th Annual Women's Codfish Bowl at historic Franklin Park in Dorchester, Mass.
