DORCHESTER, Mass. - Sophomores Sara Harland (Pembroke, Mass.) and Bethanie Royality-Lindman (Wakefield, R.I.) were the top two finishers for the Simmons College cross country team at the 45th Annual Codfish Bowl this morning at historic Franklin Park in Dorchester, Mass.
Freshman Talya Williams (Schenectady, N.Y.) of Long Island University-Post was the overall winner of the five kilometer race with a mark of 18:57, while Phillips Andover Academy won the team title with 44 points. The College of Charleston was the top performing collegiate squad with a score of 52 points to finish third overall. The Sharks totaled 318 points to finish 12th overall and ninth among colleges.
Harland clocked in at 22:35 to place 64th overall and 44th among collegiate competition, while Royality-Lindman was a step behind at 22:36 to finish 65th. Sophomore Madison Rivard (Sharon, Mass.) finished with a personal-record time of 23:34 to better her previous mark by 33 seconds and place 90th, while junior Tiffany Lo (Braintree, Mass.) came in 30 seconds later to finish 100th. Junior Alicia Morales (Uxbridge, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for Simmons as the team's fifth-best finisher with a time of 24:16 to place 102nd.
Senior Lillian Pham (Springfield, Mass.) posted her best showing of the season for the Sharks with a time of 24:56 to finish 86th, while classmate Julie Pallozzi (Portland, Maine) also set a personal season record with a mark of 29:36 to come in at 140th. Sophomore BryceLynn Cook (North Waterboro, Maine) had the biggest improvement for the day, smashing her previous personal record time by 2:13, crossing the line at 34:02 to place 112th.
Simmons will run again in two weeks when it returns to Franklin Park to compete in the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association Championship on October 11.
