Gray-Williams Leads Volleyball over Fisher, 3-0

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Simmons University women's volleyball team saw three players record eight kills, including sophomore setter Faith Gray-Williams (Las Vegas, Nev.), who also added 14 assists, nine digs and two aces to lead the Sharks to a 3-1 (25-17, 25-19, 18-25, 25-19) victory over host University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at the Tripp Athletic Center this evening in Dartmouth, Mass. Simmons improves to 5-6 on the season, while the Corsairs fall to 5-3.

The Sharks win their fourth straight match and six of their last seven to improve to 14-12, while the Falcons fall to 14-11. 

BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore setter Faith Gray-Williams (Las Vegas, Nev.) finished a dig short of a triple-double with 10 kills, 13 assists and nine digs to lead the Simmons University women's volleyball team over visiting Fisher College, 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-, this evening at Moore Gymnasium in Boston, Mass. The Sharks win their fourth straight match and six of their last seven to improve to 14-12, while the Falcons fall to 14-11. 

Simmons was extremely efficient on the attack, owning a .286 hitting percentage for the match, while holding Fisher to just .089. The Sharks hit .258 in the opening frame, before posting a robust .310 mark in the middle set. Simmons closed the contest with a .290 clip in the final set. 

Gray-Williams hit a healthy .529 for the match, while first year middle blocker Amanda Fortune (Round Rock, Texas) hit a torrid .800 for the match and did not commit an error in addition to firing an ace and coming up with a pair of digs. First year outside hitter Krissy Lloyd (Tampa. Fla.) contributed with eight kills and five digs and classmate Reilly Coombs (Deland, Fla.) got down for 10 digs, fired an ace and smashed five kills. Junior setter Kenna McCarthy (Shelter Island, N.Y.) set for 17 assists and picked up four digs. 

First year outside hitter Yeryvel Catala (Gurabo, Puerto Rico) led the Falcons with 10 kills and added four digs, while first year outside hitter Chyna Carter (Avondale, Ariz.) spiked for seven kills on a .273 hitting mark and added five digs and a block solo. 

The Sharks return to the court tomorrow night when they host Wheaton College at 7:00 p.m., while Fisher heads to Cambridge, Mass. to take on Lesley University tomorrow at 7:00 p.m.
