Gray-Williams Leads Volleyball in Tri-Match Sweep over Lasell (3-0) and Massachusetts College (3-0)

NEWTON, Mass. -- Sophomore setter Faith Gray-Williams (Las Vegas, Nev.) tallied 14 kills, 23 assists, 17 digs and three aces to lead the Simmons University women's volleyball team to a tri-match sweep over hosts Lasell College, 3-0 (25-19, 27-25, 25-20), and Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, 3-0 (25-11, 29-27, 25-20), today at the Lasell Athletic Center in Newton, Mass. The Sharks pick up a Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory over Lasell and improve to 13-12 overall and 7-4 in GNAC play, while Lasell is 11-14 and 8-4 and MCLA is 7-15.

NEW LONDON, N.H. -- Sophomore setter Faith Gray-Williams (Las Vegas, Nev.) finished a kill short of a triple-double with nine kills, 22 assists and 17 digs to go with a block assist to lead the sixth-seeded Simmons University women's volleyball team in a 3-1 (25-20, 26-24, 23-25, 25-23) loss to host number three seed Colby-Sawyer College this evening in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship Tournament Quarterfinals at Coffin Field House in New London, N.H. The Sharks close out their season at 14-15, while the Chargers improve to 21-10 and advance to the Semifinals on November 1 in Nashua, N.H., facing second-seeded Rivier University, which defeated seventh-seeded Emmanuel College (Mass.), 3-0.

Simmons held Lasell to a .067 hitting percentage and registered nine total blocks. Gray-Williams finished a kill shy of her first triple-double with nine kills on a .304 hitting mark and added 10 digs and 11 assists to go with an ace and three block assists for the Sharks. First year middle hitter Amanda Fortune (Round Rock, Texas) put down seven kills to fuel a .385 hitting percentage in addition to five block assists, four digs and an ace, while sophomore middle blocker Megan Purser (Miami, Fla.) contributed with six kills, two digs and a pair of block assists. Sophomore defensive specialist Morgan Lauvray (Murrieta, Calif.) picked up 15 digs and fired four aces.

Senior outside hitter Olivia Addington (Orange, Calif.) led Lasell with nine kills and added 15 digs, while first year outside hitter Kiana Perez (Juncos, P.R.) spiked for six kills and got down for a match-high 19 digs. First year setter Jess Langan (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) set for 22 assists and added seven digs.

The Sharks defense was even stingier in their second match of the day vs. MCLA, holding the Trailblazers to a .022 hitting clip and the offense fired 13 aces for Simmons.

First year outside hitter Krissy Lloyd (Tampa, Fla.) smashed a match-high 10 kills to lead the Sharks, while sophomore outside hitter Riley Roberge (Peoria, Ariz.) recorded nine kills on a .261 hitting percentage to go with three aces and four digs. Fortune tallied 10.5 points with three kills, five aces, two solo blocks and an assisted block and sophomore libero Julia Fusco (Beverly, Mass.) scooped up a match-best 16 digs. Junior setter Kenna McCarthy (Shelter Island, N.Y.) set for 18 assists and added eight digs and a pair of aces.

First year middle hitter Reagan Scattergood (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) tallied six kills and a block assist to lead MCLA, while junior defensive specialist Celine Manigbas (Floral Park, N.Y.) picked up 15 digs and a pair of aces.

Simmons returns to action on Wednesday, October 24 when it hosts Fisher College at Moore Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m. The Lasers return to action on October 23 when they host Bridgewater State University at 7:00 p.m., while the Trailblazers head to Cobleskill, N.Y. on October 23 to take on State University of New York Cobleskill at 7:00 p.m.
