BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) spiked for 19 kills, fueled by a .361 hitting percentage to lead the Simmons College women's volleyball team over visiting Babson College, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-21), this evening at Moore Gymnasium in Boston, Mass. The Sharks win their eighth straight match to equal their longest streak since October 11-25, 2014 and improve to 17-9 on the season, while the Beavers, who are ranked seventh in the latest NCAA New England Regional Poll, slip to 18-8. The win was the first victory for Simmons over Babson since September 8, 1998. 

Weeg added six digs and an ace to her night for Simmons, while first year outside hitter Jarene Harberts (Naples, Fla.) put down 10 kills to go with eight digs. Senior right side hitter Amber Peterson (Las Vegas, Nev.) swung for eight kills on a .286 hitting mark and added two digs and an assisted block. First year libero Julia Fusco (Beverly, Mass.) led all players with 12 digs and fired a pair of aces, while sophomore setter Kenna McCarthy (Shelter Island, N.Y.) set for 18 assists, served up three aces, got down for two digs and found a spot on the floor for a kill. 

First year outside hitter Gaby Miller (Miami, Fla.) led Babson with eight kills and a .389 hitting percentage in addition to a pair of digs and a block assist, while sophomore setter Elizabeth Cameron (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) registered 19 assists, three digs, five kills and an ace. Junior libero Abby Beecher (Pittsford, N.Y.) picked up 10 digs to go with three aces. 

The Sharks took a commanding 13-4 lead capped by seven straight points on Fusco's serve, including a pair of aces from the rookie, to open the match. Simmons later maintained an 18-11 margin, before the Beavers scored three straight points to pull to within 18-14. Babson never got closer than four points for the remainder of the set as the Sharks held a 24-20 cushion, before Weeg put the set away with her fourth kill of the set. 

The Beavers looked to even the match in the second set, scoring four of the first five points for a 4-1 lead. The visitors later held an 8-4 margin, but Simmons chipped away to knot the match at 9-9, following an 8-4 run, paced by three kills from Weeg. First year outside hitter Riley Roberge (Peoria, Ariz.) gave the Sharks their first lead, since the first point of the frame, with an ace to give the home team a 12-11 edge. Babson later reclaimed the lead at 14-13, but it was its last advantage of the set. Simmons put together a 7-1 burst, fueled by a pair of aces from McCarthy and three kills from Weeg, to take a 20-15 cushion. The Beavers closed to within 22-20 behind a 7-2 run, capped by three points during the service of Cameron. It was as close as Babson would get as Harberts spiked for the set win with a kill to make it 25-21. 

Neither team led for more than two points through the first 22 points of the third set. Miller put down a kill to give the Beavers an 8-7 edge, but a 7-2 charge from the Sharks, punctuated with a kill from McCarthy, gave them a 14-10 lead. Babson continued to battle throughout the set and pulled even at 16-16 on an ace from Beecher, but Simmons scored four of the next five points, including a pair of kills from Peterson, to open up a 20-17 margin. Cameron recorded a kill to cut the deficit to 21-20 for the Beavers, but the Sharks closed out the set and the match with a 4-1 rush, paced by a pair of the seventh and eighth kills of the set from Weeg. 

Simmons returns to action on Saturday, October 28 when it heads to West Hartford, Conn. to take on host University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) and Suffolk University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match, starting at 1:00 p.m., while Babson heads to South Hadley, Mass. on the same day to take on New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference foe Mount Holyoke College at 1:00 p.m. in its regular-season finale.
