Weeg, Fusco Lead Volleyball vs. Bates in 3-0 Loss

PLYMOUTH, N.H. ? Sophomore outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) registered a double-double, with 10 kills and 14 digs, while first year libero Julia Fusco (Beverly, Mass.) recorded a match-high 20 digs for the Simmons College women?s volleyball team in a 3-0 loss (25-11, 25-19, 25-17) to Bates College in the second match of a tri-match hosted by Plymouth State University this afternoon at Foley Gymnasium in Plymouth, N.H. The Sharks fall to 9-9 overall, while the Bobcats even their record at 6-6 on the season.

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) registered a double-double, with 10 kills and 14 digs, while first year libero Julia Fusco (Beverly, Mass.) recorded a match-high 20 digs for the Simmons College women's volleyball team in a 3-0 loss (25-11, 25-19, 25-17) to Bates College in the second match of a tri-match hosted by Plymouth State University this afternoon at Foley Gymnasium in Plymouth, N.H. The Sharks fall to 9-9 overall, while the Bobcats even their record at 6-6 on the season.

Bates was effective on the attacking end, hitting .276 for the match, while only committing six attack errors while limiting Simmons to a .011 mark.

Weeg posted her third double-double of the year and added a service ace to her day for the Sharks, while Fusco led the defensive effort, logging her third career game with 20 or more digs. First year hitter Jarene Harberts (Naples, Fla.) recorded six kills and senior right side hitter Amber Peterson (Las Vegas, Nev.) converted on three kills, hitting .375 for the match. First year setter Faith Gray-Williams (Las Vegas, Nev.) contributed with 12 assists, three digs and two aces.

First year middle hitter, Angel Echipue (Munich, Germany) swung for a blazing .611 hitting percentage and led the Bobcats with a match-high 11 kills on 18 attacks. Junior outside hitter Lauren Brough (Killingworth, Conn.) pitched in with nine kills during the match, hitting .348 and sophomore defensive specialist Gabi Eustache (New York, N.Y.) picked up 15 digs, while senior setter Jacqueline Forney (Bloomington, Ind.) assisted on 26 kills.

The Sharks will be back in action on Wednesday October 4, when they reconvene Great Northeast Athletic Conference play and host Saint Joseph's College (Me.) at 7:00 PM at Moore Gymnasium in Boston, Mass., while Bates returns to the court on Friday October 6, when they host New England Small College Athletic Conference opponent, Hamilton College at 7:00 PM in Lewiston, Me.
