Harberts Leads Volleyball to GNAC Tri-Match Sweep of Albertus Magnus and Regis

WESTON, Mass. - First year hitter Jarene Harberts (Naples, Fla.) averaged over five kills per set to lead the Simmons College women's volleyball team to a pair of straight set victories in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match this afternoon at Higgins Court in Weston, Mass. The Sharks defeated Albertus Magnus College 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-21) and host Regis (Mass.), 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-20) to win their third straight match and improve to 8-6 overall and 2-0 in league play, while the Falcons are now 9-6 and 0-2 and Regis is 5-10, 2-1.

Harberts spiked for 21 kills to lead Simmons past Albertus Magnus and added 10 more against Regis, while hitting a robust .393 for the day. She also added 12 digs, three aces and two total blocks.

The Sharks hit .346 for the match against Albertus Magnus, including a torrid .556 in the third set vs. the Falcons. Senior right side hitter Amber Peterson (Las Vegas, Nev.) put down seven kills to go with a pair of digs and a block assist, while first year Riley Roberge (Peoria, Ariz.) hit .556 with five kills in nine attempts and no errors. Sophomore setter Kenna McCarthy (Shelter Island, N.Y.) set for 18 assists and fired four aces in addition to four digs, while first year libero Julia Fusco (Beverly, Mass.) got down for eight digs, served up three aces and added eight assists. 

Harberts registered 10 kills and committed just one miscue on the attack and added three aces, seven digs and a block vs. Regis. Sophomore outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) swung for eight kills on a .263 hitting mark, while picking up seven digs. Fusco led the Simmons defensive effort with 10 digs and added two aces and four assists. 

The Sharks return to the hardwood on Tuesday, September 26 when they host GNAC foe Johnson & Wales University at 7:00 p.m. in Moore Gymasium.
