Volleyball Splits with Elms (3-1 L) and Mount Holyoke (3-0 W) in Tri-Match

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The Simmons College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches in a tri-match, falling 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-18, 25-20) to Elms College, before defeating host Mount Holyoke College, 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-21), this afternoon at Mildred Howard Gym in South Hadley, Mass. The Sharks are now 4-3 on the season, while Elms is 4-2. Mount Holyoke is 4-1.

The Sharks are now 4-3 on the season, while Elms is 4-2. Mount Holyoke is 4-1.

Simmons committed 26 service errors in its loss to Elms. 

Sophomore outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) put down 18 kills on a .200 hitting percentage in addition to four digs and an ace to lead the Sharks vs. Elms. Senior right side hitter Amber Peterson (Las Vegas, Nev.) hit .389 for the match and put away nine kills to go with five aces, three block assists and two digs. Sophomore setter Kenna McCarthy (Shelter Island, N.Y.) set for a match-high 24 assists, fired four aces and picked up eight digs.

Junior outside hitter Danielle Redding (Las Vegas, Nev.) led Elms with nine kills and added two aces and three digs, while sophomore outside hitter Hannah Adams (Deerfield, Mass.) contributed with six kills, eight digs and two total blocks. First year setter Dakota Stewart (Victoria, Texas) recorded 21 assists, 10 digs, four digs and two blocks.

Simmons hit a robust .235 in its second match of the day with Weeg swinging for a season-high 21 kills to average seven per set in the Sharks victory over Mount Holyoke, while hitting .389 to go with six digs. Peterson was extremely efficient again with a .400 hitting mark to fuel a six-kill effort in addition to an ace and two digs. First year Faith Gray-Williams (Las Vegas, Nev.) posted her first collegiate double-double with 14 assists and 14 digs to go with four kills, four aces and three blocks, while McCarthy set for 23 assists, served up three aces and got down for four digs.

Sophomore middle hitter Sasha Simine (Kitchener, Ontario) led Mount Holyoke with eight kills on a .273 hitting percentage and added a pair of block assists and junior middle hitter Jamesa Allen (Orlando, Fla.) led all players with seven assisted blocks to go with five digs and four kills. Junior libero Cameron Graham (Sarasota, Fla.) chipped in with 11 digs.

Simmons returns to the court on Tuesday, September 12 when it travels to Wenham, Mass. to take on Gordon College at 7:00 p.m., while Mount Holyoke heads to Norton, Mass. on the same night to play Wheaton College at 7:00 p.m. and Elms hits the road for a September 13 match in Framingham, Mass. at 7:00 p.m. vs. Framingham State University.
