Volleyball Defeats Mount Ida, 3-0

NASHUA, N.H. - First year outside hitter Morgan Weeg (Goodyear, Ariz.) posted her 11th double-double of the year and first year Carly Wanner-Hyde (Newington, Conn.) set for 28 assists to lead the Simmons College women's volleyball team over Mount Ida College, 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-17), this afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match at Muldoon Gymnasium in Nashua, N.H. The Sharks improve to 9-9 overall and 6-2 in league play, while the Mustangs fall to 7-19 and 1-8.

The Sharks improve to 9-9 overall and 6-2 in league play, while the Mustangs fall to 7-19 and 1-8. The match was the first for Simmons of a tri-match with host Rivier University to follow.

Weeg hit .233 for the match and swung for 12 kills to go with 11 digs, two aces and a block solo for Simmons, while Wanner-Hyde added three digs to her career-high assist total. Junior right side hitter Amber Peterson (Las Vegas, Nev.) put down seven kills on a .357 hitting mark and added seven of the team's 15 aces. Senior libero Alex Itasaka (Bradford, Mass.) anchored the defense with 23 digs and also served up an ace for the Sharks.

Junior Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, Mass.) and senior Molly Alkinburg Port Deposit, Md.) were the offensive leaders for Mount Ida as they combined for half of the team's total kills. Reidy was the leader with six kills while Alkinburg knocked down five. First year Alexis Bell (Salem, Conn.) registered 17 assists over the three sets with senior Alysha Dunbar (Quincy, Mass.) recording 10 digs. Reidy also collected a team high 13 digs.
