Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match with Albertus Magnus (3-0) and York College (3-0)

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Simmons College volleyball team took home a pair of victories with 3-0 victories over host Albertus Magnus College and York College (N.Y.) as part of a tri-match this afternoon in New Haven, Conn. The contest vs. Albertus Magnus was a conference tilt. The Sharks improve to 5-13 overall and 4-2 in league play, while Albertus Magnus is now 4-14 and 0-5, while York falls to 4-17.

The contest vs. Albertus Magnus was a conference tilt. The Sharks improve to 5-13 overall and 4-2 in league play, while Albertus Magnus is now 4-14 and 0-5, while York falls to 4-17.

Simmons defeated York in the its first match of the day. Sophomore outside hitter Cailin Fredrickson (Columbia, Md.) led the way with 10 kills on an impressive .429 hitting percentage, making just one error in 21 attacks, while junior right side hitter Nicole Alberghini (Northborough, Mass.) spiked for seven kills and a .267 hitting mark. Sophomore setter Andalyn Duke (Litchfield Park, Ariz.) set for 22 assists in just two frames, while first year setter Morgan Westine (Ansonia, Conn.) registered eight assists in a set of play.

The Sharks capped the afternoon with a match win over Albertus Magnus. First year middle blocker Emmee Ashby (Payson, Ariz.) led the attack in the second match, putting down a team-high 11 kills, while Alberghini swung for six kills and a .500 hitting mark. Fredrickson added four kills and hit a healthy .400 for the match. Duke racked up 27 assists in the three sets to direct the action for Simmons.

The Sharks will be in action again on Thursday, October 16 when they host Emerson College at 7:00 p.m.
