    NEWTON, Mass. – Simmons volleyball swept both of their matches Saturday afternoon, picking up a three set win over Albertus Magnus and Lasell College. Simmons finishes their regular season at 18-13 overall and 9-3 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

    BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman middle hitter Raeann Nesta (Niantic, Conn.) recorded a match-high 13 kills to lead the Simmons College volleyball team past Emmanuel College, 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-18), Tuesday evening at the Jean Yawkey Center. With the victory, the Sharks propel past the Saints in the GNAC standings to improve to 16-13 overall and 7-3 in the GNAC while the loss drops EC to 12-16 and 6-4 in GNAC action.

    BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons volleyball fell to the Amherst College Lord Jeffs, 3-0 (25-7, 25-13, 25-16) in their last regular season home game Tuesday evening at the Holmes Sports Center. The Sharks (14-12, 5-2 GNAC) honored their seniors, Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.), Caroline Boyd (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Rachel Dufault (Westport, Mass.) before the game for their dedication and contributions to volleyball program.

    Wellesley College 3, Simmons 1: The Sharks battled the Wellesley College Blue to four games, falling 3-1 (29-27, 25-11, 22-25, 27-25) in the opening game of the MIT Women’s Volleyball Invitational hosted at the Holmes Sports Center at Simmons College Friday afternoon. The Sharks took an early lead in the first set with a 10-5 lead before the Blue tied the game at 14. Junior Nafeesa Connolly (Natick, Mass.) served up an ace as the Sharks regained the lead but the Blue continued to keep the score within one.

Earlier on, Simmons battled Smith for a 26-28, 25-15, 25-18, 19-25, 15-13 victory.

    WATERVILLE, Maine -- Simmons volleyball battled tournament hosts, Colby College, to five games before falling to the Mules 3-2 (25-23, 25-9, 21-25, 19-25, 15-12) Saturday morning on the second day of the Colby Invitational. The Sharks rebounded in the afternoon, defeating the University of Maine at Farmington 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-22). Sharks freshman Raeann Nesta (Niantic, Conn.) was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player and Rachel Dufault (Westport, Mass.) was named to the all-tournament team.

    WATERVILLE, Maine -- Simmons took a 3-1 win against Maine Maritime Academy (1-2) in the second match of the Colby College Invitational Friday evening. Simmons (3-3) won 25-18, 25-12, 24-26, 25-18 led by freshman Raeann Nesta (Niantic, Conn.) who posted 15 kills and hit .333 over the four sets.

    SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Simmons volleyball (0-1) fell 3-0 to Springfield College in their opening match of the 2012 season Friday evening at the Springfield Invitational. The Pride set the tone early and went on to win straight sets 25-10, 25-12 and 25-19. Sharks freshman Raeann Nesta (Niantic, Conn.) totaled 10 kills at a .391 clip, while senior Rachel Dufault (Westport, Mass.) registered 18 assists and 10 digs.
  • Sharks Land No. 4 Spot in Women’s Volleyball Pre-Season Poll

    BOSTON, Mass. – Coming off of an impressive run in the 2011 GNAC tournament, Rivier University received 166 total points and 10 first place votes to land in the top spot of the 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Pre-Season Coaches’ Poll. Emerson College placed second in the poll with 144 points and two first place votes after going a perfect 13-0 in regular season action last year. Emmanuel College was just one point behind the Lions in third place with 143 points and one first place vote while Simmons College was not far off the pace with 127 total points to rank fourth in the poll. Norwich University would come in fifth with 109 points while Saint Joseph’s College (ME) rounded out the top six pollsters with 107 points.

    BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons volleyball looks to continue its success in the 2012 season under the guidance of 2011 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Volleyball Coach of the Year Alesia Vaccari. The Sharks, who had their most successful season in program history last year, finished fourth in the conference after falling to Emerson College in the GNAC semifinals.
