Sharks Defeated by JWU, 3-1

Simmons volleyball fell to top-ranked Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Johnson and Wales University on Tuesday night, 3-1. The Sharks dropped the first two sets against the Wildcats, 20-25 and 17-25, fought back to win a 25-22 decision in the third, then lost the fourth set, 17-25. With the defeat, Simmons drops to 1-12 overall (0-3 GNAC) while JWU rises to 13-8 (5-0 GNAC).

Junior Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) led the team with 10 kills, three aces, and 11 digs, while freshman Sandy Lor (Fitchburg, Mass.) came up big for the Sharks' defense with 12 digs. Senior Taylor Pederson (San Antonio, Texas) and junior Kate Fionte (Andover, Mass.) had 5 kills apiece. Sophomore setter Rachel Dufault (Westport, Mass.) led both teams with 28 assists on the night.

For JWU, Catherine Bravo had a game-high 12 kills, also 22 assists, and five digs. Michelle Johnson had nine kills and three aces, and Nikki Baichunas had 12 digs and five kills. Middle hitters Audrey Warren and Abbey Reedy each had six blocks for the Wildcats.

The Sharks will take to the court on Thursday, October 7 at Newbury College at 7:00pm, while JWU will travel to Suffolk University for a GNAC doubleheader with the Rams and St. Joseph's Maine.
