Le Named GNAC Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week for League-High Fifth Time

WINTHROP, Mass. - Simmons College tennis player Han DK Le (Vietnam) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week for the week of September 1-7, it was announced by the GNAC today.


WINTHROP, Mass. - Simmons College women's tennis player Han DK Le (Vietnam/Matignon HS) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the week of September 15-21, it was announced today by the league. The award marks the second time that Le has earned the honor. She was also named the top weekly rookie for the week of September 1-7.

Le has been named a league-high five times. She was also honored for the weeks of September 1-7, September 15-21 and each of the last three weeks. The Sharks? first year Mary Matthews (Wakefield, R.I.) was also tabbed for the week of September 8-14.

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College women's tennis player Han DK Le (Tra Vinh, Vietnam/Matignon HS (Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week, it was announced today by the league. Le has been named a league-high five times. She was also honored for the weeks of September 1-7, September 15-21 and each of the last three weeks. The Sharks' first year Mary Matthews (Wakefield, R.I.) was also tabbed for the week of September 8-14. 

Le was a combined 4-0 for the week and helped Simmons capture its seventh straight GNAC Championship and 10th in the last 11 seasons. The first year cruised in the conference semifinals vs. Anna Maria College, combining with junior Katie Crowley (Reading, Mass.) to win at number three doubles, 8-0, before beating her singles foe, 6-0, 6-0, at fifth singles. The Matignon High School product paired with Crowley again to take a hard-fought 8-6 win at third doubles over Johnson & Wales University in the next day's title match. Le capped her week with a straight set, 6-3, 6-1, victory at sixth singles over JWU. 

The rookie has been outstanding all season, posting a combined 23-4 record, including a perfect 11-0 in doubles action. She has won nine of her last 11 singles tilts and has played as high as number three in the singles lineup, posting a 3-0 record from that spot. Prior to winning the league title, Le's highlight of the year was arguably at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament, where she combined with Crowley to win the 'D' Draw championship, going a combined 6-2. 

The Sharks earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, but will be in action again in the Spring when they take on Brandeis University in dual match play on Saturday, April 11 at 1:00 p.m.
