Crowley, Le Win NEWITT "D" Draw Crown with 2-1 Win over Babson

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Simmons College junior Katie Crowley (Reading, Mass.) and first year Han DK Le (Tra Vinh, Vietnam/Matignon HS (Mass.)) defeated Babson College today to win the "D" Draw of the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament in South Hadley, Mass. The tournament was co-hosted by Mount Holyoke College and Smith College. 

The tournament had four 16-team brackets and each matchup features a doubles match and two singles matches with the winner being decided by a best two-out-of-three format.

Crowley defeated Babson first year Ashland Stansbury (Hingham, Mass.), 6-0, 6-2, but Le was downed by the Beavers' senior Courtney Fischer (Greenwich, Conn.), 6-1, 6-0. Crowley and Le combined to defeat the Babson duo, 8-4, to win the bracket's championship.

The Sharks will be in action again on Saturday, October 25 as the number one seed in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship tournament. Simmons will take on the winner of the first round match on October 22 between fifth-seeded Anna Maria College and number four seed Saint Joseph's College (Maine) at 2:00 p.m.
