Le Named GNAC Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week Again

WINTHROP, Mass. - Simmons College tennis player Han DK Le (Vietnam) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week for the week of September 1-7, it was announced by the GNAC today.


WINTHROP, Mass. - Simmons College women's tennis player Han DK Le (Vietnam/Matignon HS) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the week of September 15-21, it was announced today by the league. The award marks the second time that Le has earned the honor. She was also named the top weekly rookie for the week of September 1-7.

She has earned the league?s top rookie honor a league-high three times. She was also named the top newcomer for the weeks of September 1-7 and September 15-21.

Le has been named a league-high five times. She was also honored for the weeks of September 1-7, September 15-21 and each of the last three weeks. The Sharks? first year Mary Matthews (Wakefield, R.I.) was also tabbed for the week of September 8-14.

The award marks the second time that Le has earned the honor. She was also named the top weekly rookie for the week of September 1-7.

Le owned a combined record of 3-0 in two dual matches last week, including 1-0 in singles action. The first year netter was a double winner in the Sharks' 8-1 victory at Johnson & Wales University on September 20 with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at number five singles and an 8-6 win at third doubles with partner Katie Crowely (Reading, Mass.). A graduate of Matignon High School, Le also won her only match in doubles play at Suffolk University on September 17, teaming with Crowley, in her first collegiate doubles match, to win, 8-1.

Le has posted a combined record of 7-2 for the season, including 5-2 in singles play. The rookie is 2-2 at sixth singles, 2-0 at number five and 1-0 at the sixth spot for Simmons. She's tied for second on the team in singles victories.

The Sharks have won three straight dual matches and own a 6-2 overall record for the season, including a perfect 3-0 in conference play to place first in the league standings. Simmons has won 49 straight league matches and has not lost since 2007 in conference play. The team will be in action again on Friday, September 26 when it heads to Williamstown, Mass. to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Championship tournament, hosted by Williams College.
