WINTHROP, Mass. - Simmons College tennis player Han DK Le (Vietnam) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week for the week of September 1-7, it was announced by the GNAC today.
The first year had quite a first week of tennis to begin her collegiate career, recording a 3-1 mark in singles action, including 2-1 at sixth singles and 1-0 at number five. The rookie showed great poise in her collegiate debut on August 30, dropping the opening set, 6-1 at Wheaton College and was down 4-1 in the second frame only to rebound and win 11 of the next 12 games to take the second set, 6-4, and the final deciding set, 6-1. A product of Matignon High School (Mass.), Le was the deciding match at number six to give the Sharks a 5-4 win at Mount Holyoke College on September 1. She split the first two sets, falling in the first, 7-5, before regrouping to win the final two sets, 6-1, 6-2. Le's only singles loss of the week came at the sixth spot vs. Roger Williams University when she lost the first frame, 7-5, but won the second, 6-3, before bowing out at 11-9 in the third set. The rookie capped the week by blanking her Clark University opponent at fifth singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Simmons is currently 3-1 on the year and will be in action again on Wednesday, September 10 when it hosts Babson College at Harvard University's Beren Tennis Center in Cambridge, Mass.
