Sharks Fall to MIT in NCAA Second Round

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Great Northeast Athletic Conference has announced the 2013 Women's Tennis Championship Bracket featuring six teams including defending champions, the Simmons College Sharks.

WINDSOR, Conn. ? For a second straight year Simmons Tennis fell to the No. 13 MIT Engineers in 5-0 in the second round of the 2014 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships.

WINDSOR, Conn. – For a second straight year Simmons Tennis fell to the No. 13 MIT Engineers in 5-0 in the second round of the 2014 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships. 

MIT (17-4) quickly picked up its first point of the day when Victoria Tam teamed with freshman Elysa Kohrs  to score an 8-0 decision over Rachael Downey (Groveland, Mass.) and Sofie Epshtein at No. 1. The Engineers moved to a 2-0 lead in the match after the No. 2 doubles team of senior Julia Hsu and sophomore Sunnie Lampl won their match by an 8-1 score over Simmons' Meghan Cokely (Haverhill, Mass.) and Caroline Khoury (Portsmouth, Ohio). At No. 3 the MIT duo of junior Michelle Dutt and freshman Krystal Lai made it a clean sweep for the Engineers as they defeated the team of Theresa Reinhard (Canton, Ohio) and Katie Crowley (Reading, Mass.), 8-2.

In singles play Simmons (14-6) could not mount a challenge to the MIT lead as the Engineers quickly decided the match with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 victories. Playing at No. 1, Kohrs scored the fourth point of the day for MIT, defeating Reinhard before Tam capped the victory with her win over Epshtein. 

The Sharks finish the season with an overall record of 14-6 and their sixth-straight NCAA Championships appearance.
