Simmons Tennis NCAA First Round Preview

BOSTON, Mass. -- After winning the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship in October, Simmons Tennis received an automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Division III Tennis Championships, which being on May 8. This is the Sharks sixth-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

BOSTON, Mass. -- After winning the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship in October, Simmons Tennis received an automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Division III Tennis Championships, which being on May 8. This is the Sharks sixth-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

 

The Sharks finished the season with an overall record of 13-5 with an undefeated 6-0 record in the conference and will play the Gwynedd-Mercy College, who won the Colonial States Athletic Conference with a record of 17-2.  The first round match will take place at host site Amherst College on Thursday, May 8 at 11:00 AM. The winner will face nationally ranked MIT on Saturday.

 

Simmons was led all season by senior Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.), who was named GNAC Tennis Player of the Year, and first year Theresa Reinhard (Canton, Ohio), who received GNAC Tennis Rookie of the Year honors. Head coach Bob Rauseo received GNAC Coach of the Year accolades for the sixth time in nine seasons. 

 

The Sharks will also rely on sophomores Meghan Cokely (Haverhill, Mass.), Rachael Downey (Groveland, Mass.) and Sofie Epshtein (Newton, Mass.), all of whom received GNAC All-Conference honors this fall.  Teague and Cokely were also the first doubles team in Simmons history to be ranked by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in the 2013 Women's Division III Northeast Regional rankings this season.
