Simmons Tops Suffolk, 9-0 In GNAC Women’s Tennis Action

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. ? The Simmons College Sharks (8-2, 4-0 GNAC) extended their winning streak to five games with a 9-0 shutout over the Suffolk University Rams (1-7, 1-2 GNAC) on Wednesday evening.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Simmons College Sharks (8-2, 4-0 GNAC) extended their winning streak to five games with a 9-0 shutout over the Suffolk University Rams (1-7, 1-2 GNAC) on Wednesday evening.

 

Senior Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H) won the top singles match with 6-3, 6-0 set victories over freshman Aidiana Sargyndykova as the Sharks swept all six individual matches. Teague was a multiple winner on the evening as she also teamed with sophomore Meghan Cokely (Haverhill, Mass.) for an 8-1 victory in the top doubles match.

 

Cokely also won her singles match as she took the number three individual game in 6-0, 6-3 sets.

 

Five players were multiple winners on the evening for Sharks as freshmen Theresa Reinhard (Canton, Ohio), Sofie Epshtein (Newton, Mass.) and sophomore Rachael Downey (Groveland, Mass.) were winners in both singles and doubles play.

 

Reinhard and Epshtein combined for an 8-1 victory in tandem play in the number two game, while Downey and junior Kristi Mielbye (Hanson, Mass.) took the third game by an 8-2 score.

 

Reinhard was a winner 6-1, 6-0 over senior Adrianna Garrett in the second singles match, while Epshtein earned straight 6-0 match sets in the number four singles match.

 

Both teams will be back in GNAC action over the weekend. Simmons will host Johnson & Wales University on Sunday afternoon at 3:00pm, while Suffolk hosts Mount Ida College at noon on Saturday.
