Swimming & Diving Earns CSCAA Scholar All-America Honors for Fall 2018; Posts Seventh-Highest GPA in Nation

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.? The Simmons University women's swimming & diving team was named a Scholar All-America Team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America, it was announced today by the organization. 

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.– The Simmons University women's swimming & diving team was named a Scholar All-America Team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America, it was announced today by the organization. 

The Sharks posted a cumulative 3.66 grade point average as a team to finish with the seventh-highest GPA among the 171 NCAA Division III programs that were recognized. A record 713 teams from 460 institutions received Scholar All-America Team status for the Fall 2018 semester.  The teams were selected by the CSCAA's Scholar All-America committee on the basis of their Fall grade point averages and represent 16,502 student-athletes spanning NCAA Division I, II and III institutions in addition to NAIA and NJCAA schools. The awards are in recognition of teams that achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and maintained a roster of at least 12 competitors during the 2018 Fall Semester. The Scholar All-America Teams are named twice per year (following the fall and spring academic semesters.) Simmons has earned Scholar All-America status in each of the last 17 semesters dating back to 2010.

Simmons boasted 26 student-athletes with a 3.00 GPA or higher, including 15 team members with a 3.70 or higher and a trio of competitors with a perfect 4.0. 

The Sharks are currently 10-2 on the season and have posted double-digit dual meet victories for the sixth straight season. The team will defend its Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship in addition to its New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association crown over the next five week. Simmons returns to the water on Saturday, January 26 when it hosts Mount Holyoke College at 12:00 p.m. at the Holmes Sports Center Natatorium on the Simmons campus in Boston, Mass.
