Singleton Named GNAC Women's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week for Third Time

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons University?s Sarah Singleton (Mission Hills, Calif.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women?s Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week for the week of October 22-28, it was announced today by the league.

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons University?s Sarah Singleton (Mission Hills, Calif.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women?s Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week for the week of October 29 to November 4, it was announced today by the league.

Singleton has now received the award three times this season.

WINTHROP, Mass. ?Simmons University?s Sarah Singleton (Mission Hills, Calif.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week for the week of January 21-27, it was announced today by the league. 

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons University's Sarah Singleton (Mission Hills, Calif.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week for the week of January 14-20, it was announced today by the league. Singleton has now received the award three times this season. 

The rookie won both individual events that she entered for the Sharks and helped Simmons win a relay event in a 168-69 victory over Division II Merrimack College on January 19. Singleton began her day by winning the 400-yard individual medley by more than six seconds with a time of 4:48.50, before dominating the 200-yard butterfly by more than six seconds with a season-best mark of 2:20.96. The first year swam the second leg of the team's 200-yard freestyle relay and helped the Sharks combine on a time of 1:43.58 for the win. 

For the season, the Grace Christian Academy graduate has turned in 15 top-five finishes, while winning eight events. A Neuroscience and Behavior major, Singleton shattered the school record for the 400-yard individual medley by more than 12 seconds with a time of 4:40.31 to place fourth at the MIT Winter Invitational in early December. She also helped Simmons set a new standard for the 800-yard freestyle relay in the same meet when she swam the third leg of the race to combine on a school-record time of 7:46.36. She has won six different events this season with wins in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke, the 100 and 200-yard butterfly and the 100 and 400-yard individual medley races and has won three of her last five individual events. 

The Sharks are currently 10-2 on the season in dual meet action and have registered double-digit victories in six straight seasons. They return to the pool for their final regular season dual meet on Saturday, January 26 when they host Mount Holyoke College at the Holmes Sports Center Natatorium at 12:00 p.m.
