Singleton Shatters School Record in 400 IM on Day Two of MIT Swimming & Diving Invitational Prelims

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- First year Sarah Singleton (Mission Hills, Calif.) broke the school record in the 400-yard individual medley this morning for the Simmons University women's swimming & diving team at the MIT Swimming & Diving Winter Invitational at the Al '51 and Barrie Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool in Cambridge, Mass.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- First year Sarah Singleton (Mission Hills, Calif.) broke the school record in the 400-yard individual medley this morning for the Simmons University women's swimming & diving team at the MIT Swimming & Diving Winter Invitational at the Al '51 and Barrie Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool in Cambridge, Mass.

Singleton touched the wall at 4:41.25 to place sixth in the 400-IM of this morning's preliminaries and shatter the former school mark by more than 11 seconds. Senior Jason Erichsen (Banks, Ore.) placed 21st in the event, while sophomore Anna Leedham (Lowell, Mass.) finished 24th, senior Laura Simpson (Perkiomenville, Pa.) came in 26th and junior Alex Berg-Pappert (Geneva, N.Y.) placed 30th to advance to this evening's final. 

Junior Aine Scholand (Albuquerque, N.M.) clocked in at 1:56.14 to place fifth in the 200-yard freestyle and senior Kerry Fleming (Northampton, Mass.) finished 11th in the event. Sophomore Maria Soraghan (East Hampstead, N.H.) placed 18th, Simpson finished 20th in addition to sophomore Olivia Walz (Natick, Mass.) and junior Laura List (Bedford, Mass.) each tying for 26th prior to tonight's finals.

List placed 17th in the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 25.06, while Fleming finished 21st to advance to tonight's finals. Fleming will also compete in the evening's 100-yard backstroke after posting a mark of 1:01.17 to finish 18th in the event, while Scholand and Singleton placed 24th and 25th, respectively. 

Leedham was the team's top finisher in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:19.19 to place 21st, while senior Kara Smith (Eastham, Mass.) finished 25th to advance to the final. Sophomore Elizabeth Bartlett (Richmond, Mass.) recorded a mark of 1:12.86 with Erichsen right behind to finish 24th and 25th, respectively, while Walz placed 27th to advance to the 100-yard breaststroke final.

The Sharks boasted a seventh-place effort in the 200-yard freestyle relay behind Singleton, Scholand, Fleming and List's time of 1:39.57. Bartlett, sophomore Annie Lam (Natick, Mass.), junior Haley McCurdy (Framingham, Mass.) and Erichsen fueled the Simmons quartet for a 20th-place showing in the relay, while senior Charlotte Rivard (Norwood, Mass.) first year Leah Danforth (Peterborough, Mass.), junior Devon Tice (Framingham, Mass.) and senior Cassie Vietas (Tampa, Fla.) combined to finish 25th to advance to the finals.

The Sharks will compete in the finals tonight at 6:00 p.m. in Cambridge, Mass.
