Erichsen Named GNAC Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week Again

WINTHROP, Mass. ? Simmons College?s Jason Erichsen (Banks, Ore.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week for the week of October 23-29, it was announced by the league today.

Erichsen earns the award for a conference-high second time after earning the honor for the week of October 23-29. The Sharks also saw sophomore Aine Scholand (Albuquerque, N.M.) receive the accolade for the week of October 16-22. 

WINTHROP, Mass. – Simmons College's Jason Erichsen (Banks, Ore.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week for the week of November 6-12, it was announced today by the league. Erichsen earns the award for a conference-high second time after earning the honor for the week of October 23-29. The Sharks also saw sophomore Aine Scholand (Albuquerque, N.M.) receive the accolade for the week of October 16-22. 

The junior won all three events they entered with personal-record times and helped the team to a victory in the 200-yard medley relay as the opening backstroke leg in a 167-132 victory over Wellesley College on November 11. Erichsen registered a strong finish to pick up the swimmer's first win of the day with a time of 1:03.08 in the 100-yard backstroke to finish first by nine tenths of a second. The Oregon Connections Academy product cruised to a three-plus second win in the 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 2:33.12, before taking the 200-yard individual medley with a mark of 2:18.04. The third-year competitor helped the Sharks combine on a time of 1:54.43 to win the relay. 

Erichsen has enjoyed an outstanding season, eclipsing six personal-record times, while swimming in the team's "A" medley relays. The Oregon native has placed first in seven of 11 individual events, while setting personal-records in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 29.79 to finish first in a double-dual meet against both Gordon College and Elms College on October 28 and also won the 100-yard breaststroke in the same meet with a personal-best mark of 1:11.78. Erichsen posted a personal-record clip of 29.51 in the 50-yard butterfly to finish second in the team's opening meet against Westfield State University on October 21. 

The Environmental Science major has recorded 51 top-five finishes during the swimmer's time with the Sharks, including 13 victories. 

Simmons is currently 4-2 on the season and returns to the pool on Saturday, November 18 when it hosts University of New England at 1:00 p.m.
