BOSTON – Simmons soccer (2-12-1, 2-8-1 GNAC) dropped an afternoon match to neighboring rival Emmanuel College (7-8-2, 6-6-0 GNAC) on Saturday.
The pair of Fenway rivals had great scoring opportunities in opening 15 minutes. Simmons opportunity came in the ninth minute with junior Izabella Warren a shot that grazed the crossbar. In the 13th minute, Sullivan nearly put the Saints on the board, but Nothacker made a diving save to her right, keeping the game scoreless.
Emmanuel's Saint pressure finally culminated in a goal in the 63rd minute. Senior Kennedy Davignon scored the eventual game-winner of a corner taken by Katherine Dufour. Simmons sophomore goalkeeper Marita Nothacker was unable to get a hand on Davignon's header resulting a 1-0 lead for the Saints.
Simmons nearly equalized in the 83rd minute with sophomore Sydney Neumuth having the Sharks best opportunity of the second half. From the top-right corner of the penalty area, Neumuth nearly found the far-side netting, but the shot just skipped past the post, preserving the Saints lead.
